Tour to Changjiao, Debu County, Meizhou, Guangdong, and La Salle Study Center

Dear Parents and Students,

Br. David LIAO, retired Brother Provincial of the District of Penang (Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong) has been running a learning center, now named La Salle Study Centre (LSSC), for more than 10 years in his ancestral home in BaiJiang (百江), ChangJiao Village (长教村), in Mainland China.

The village is located near WuLiao Town (湖寮镇) in DaBu County (大埔县), MeiZhou (梅州) which is in the north-eastern part of Guangdong Province.

 

Over the past 10 years a number of our senior Form students and teachers have participated in the project as tutors of village children in the Summer English Reading Programme offered by the Centre. Both the village children and our students have benefited from the experience.

 

This year we will have around ten LSC students serving in the Centre from the 18 Jul – 2 Aug. Attached please find some media reports on Br. David’s Project.

To have an opportunity to gain an understanding of the work of Br. David, the PTA is organizing a Tour to the LSSC in ChangJiao. In addition to witnessing the great work achieved by this project, participants will also be able to experience the local culture, and the creativity and wisdom of the Hakka people, and to taste delicious and renowned local Hakka dishes. Parents and their family members are invited to take part. Details are as follows:

 

Date: 30th July – 2nd August, 2015 (Thu – Sun)

 

Participants: On family basis (students are expected to go with parents)

 

Transportation: The trip from Hong Kong to MeiZhou takes around 6.5 hours and from MeiZhou to WuLiao a further 1.5 hours. Cross-border buses depart from Prince Edward at 7:20am.

 

Expenses: The cost of transportation (including tour to Hakka earth buildings) will be around RMB450 for each participant. Accommodation will cost about RMB120/twin-bed room night.

 

Participants are to share expenses of meals which do not cost much in WuLiao Town.

Itinerary:

Day 1 (30 Jul): Participants will be able to relax in the evening after arrival at WuLiao.

 

Day 2 (31 Jul): Participants will visit LSSC at ChangJiao village in the morning. Participants will be able to enjoy a walk around the village and experience farm life in a village in modern China. In the afternoon participants will visit the Hakka Museum or other attractions in Debu. In the evening participants with enjoy renowned and delicious Hakka food in Wuliao.

 

Day 3 (1 Aug): Participants will visit the famous Hakka earth buildings (客家土楼) in YongDing (永定) of FuJian Province, about 40km from ChangJiao. The unique and prominent YongDing earth buildings, square or round in shape, are described as brilliant pearls amongst the architectural beauties in the world. In the evening participants will visit the LSSC again and share in a farewell party.

 

Day 4 (2 Aug): Participants will depart before lunch for Hong Kong along with those LSC students who have been working in the Centre from the 18thJuly – 2nd August. The group will arrive back at Prince Edward at around 8:30pm.

 

Accommodation: All participants will stay at the 3-Star hotel「鸿华大酒店」 which is located near the center of WuLiao. The hotel is clean and economical, well-equipped with private bathroom, cable TV, free Internet access, and other basic facilities. Participants can choose to have a single room or to share a twin-bed room with others.

 

If parents are interested in joining this Tour, please enroll via this eNotice on or before the 22th of June 2015 (Mon). Enrolled parents will be contacted by PTA Standing Committee members for further details.
